Zane Oliver | New Gear Patrol Contributor
From Patrick Tuttle: Men, say hello to Zane Oliver. He’s a member of Gear Patrol’s latest rookie class of Contributors. Hailing from Texas, Zane approached us after being a loyal reader, then an active community member. Now, as a part of our team, we’re looking forward to what men in Texas have to say and how that stacks up with the perspectives of our other southern gents. Welcome aboard Zane.

Thinking, pondering, wondering, and dreaming – although dangerous in my wife’s eyes – these are the OCD tendencies that led me to Gear Patrol. I’m always in search of some type of gear. What that may be all depends on my mood for the day.
Born and raised in the great state of Texas, I am a financial adviser and I also own an automotive detailing business on the side for fun (and gear money). I always say that I like to be funny, but I’m never as funny as I’d like to be. Similar to many loyal Gear Patrol readers, I have numerous hobbies and interests which occupy most every drop of free time and all the resources I can muster. It is a thirst that’s hard to quench.
One of my missions in life is to have a profound impact on those I contact. I believe Gear Patrol is a fantastic avenue of opportunity to impact men’s lives (read: your life) with relevant, useful information about so many things that are shared passions, and, as an optimist, I think even better things are yet to come.
P.S. – I’ll try to keep the “y’alls” and “howdys” to a bare minimum.
Zane can be reached for question or comments via e-mail at zoliver@gearpatrol.com.

Zane,
Welcome to the team. I think my wife would echo your wife's concern about my similarly gear obsessive tendencies. Looking forward to working with you!

Congrats Zane. I look forward to seeing more articles with "y'alls" since I'm from North Carolina. I will also look forward to an article where we can debate the deliciousness of TX vs. NC BBQ.
That's a trick question if I've ever seen one. I don't care if it's from TX, NC, TN, AR, or frakingMars. It's barbecue, thus it is meat of the gods.
Of course it is a trick question. We all know everything is better and bigger in Texas, so well go ahead and say the rest of the south follows us in BBQ greatness..
Look forward to reading your posts. As a side note, do any of the contributors no anything about cigars? I liked the 10 great wine list. Perhaps a similar list for cigars could be made. Maybe even a high-end list and a list for something you could afford to smoke on a more regular basis.
Zane welcome! You're not the only staff member with a southern heritage (I'm from Baton Rouge) so there's no shame in that game. I'd suggest your wife should give Jon's a call right now to discuss setting up a Gear Patrol wives support group now. You're Gear addiction will only get worse.
Zane, I'm looking forward to seeing you make me realize how poorly I've been washing my own car. Granted… the streets of New York don't really afford me such assumed luxuries like: "water hoses", and "driveways"… the horror.
Thanks for the welcome and words fellas! I'm really excited about everything that is coming up. Should be good times!
The BBQ lovers up top forgot to mention the Holy Grail of BBQ that is Kansas City…….you haven't had BBQ unless you've had it in KC.
True, KC does have the All American BBQ Cookout competition for a reason. Anyhow, good to see Zane representing the lone star state on GearPatrol. I am sure he will be a great edition.
Congratulations ZaneO! You are the man!

I'm a street car!
Welcome Zane! Looking forward to seeing what you have to offer!
welcome aboard! did patrick tell you about the hazing rituals?
Hey Zane! Nice to meet ya! Automotive detailer eh? Cool. It just so happens that I just bought a new ride, and alhough my friends are sayin it's a chick's car I'm still frothin on it and I wanna keep it spotless. So can I ask you please: I would like to get all the little bits of black stuff from the road and what-not off the color-coded (chick's) bumpers. Now, I had this stuff I used on my old car called "bug and tar remover" but I remember it used to take a bit of paint off with it. Can you please suggest an equivalent that won't remove any paint? Thanks heaps!!!
