Roger Dawkins | New Gear Patrol Contributor
From Patrick Tuttle: When Gear Patrol set out to create a community of real men, we had little insight that we’d be expanding said community into Australia. As it turns out they have real men, too. One of them, Roger Dawkins, is part of the newest crop of GP Contributors. It’s our hope that Roger’s interests in surfing, grooming, and, well, gear as well as his international vantage point will perpetuate our own evolution. And besides, we now have a whole new vocabulary of jargon to play with.

“There Ain’t No Way to Hide Your Lyin Eyes.” That song is playing on the radio right now. I don’t like it, but I know it—from when I was a kid 20 years ago. I think it played on the car stereo sometimes when we were going on family holidays to the north east coast of Australia or something.
Now it’s playing while I’m at work. It’s the kind of song (and radio station) that doesn’t offend anyone in my communal office. I don’t mind stuff like that, ’cause if there were pumping tunes, they’d distract me from my grueling tasks. I used to lecture Sydney’s wasted youth about the academic importance of the movies, but now I write about hair.
My new surfboard is right here on the ground, next to my desk. It’s in a new cover: a “slim fit.” It’s svelte, like a compact attaché case full of weapons or money. I think that, as I grab the cover’s handle and carry my light 5′11 to the car at the end of the day towards the long drive through the tolls and down the tunnel and past the beach, back to my house on a crowded street in Bondi.

I'm heaps keen on hearing more from you Roger, especially about surfing - something I know 100% nothing about. Welcome to the team, sir.
Roger glad to have you and your brilliant intro. I just want to urge you to think big! After all, your attache could easily contain both.
Welcome. What kind of board do you ride? I had a 6'10" squash tail when I lived in North Carolina. Not much surfing to do here in PA other than the web though, so I sold it before I moved.
Welcome aboard, Roger! Love your intro. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Hey thanks guys! I'm looking forward to some fun times here at GP. I've got some surfing posts on the burner so stay tuned. Tyler: I'm sad to hear you sold your board
As for mine I just got tasty new 5'11 swallow tail. It's good for the beachies here in Sydney, and when it's a little bigger I crack out my 6'2. Sweet!
Hmmm… surfing… maybe I can fit a quick one in on the way home…
Great to see you've got an Aussie on the team! I'll be following intently….
Googs, there's no better way to follow.
Welcome, fellow newbie. I'm excited about some down-under perspective.
Funnel-web spiders, great whites, taipans, crocodiles, and box jellies…I don't know how you guys survive down there, but please tell us of your adventures. Welcome!
