Keurig Mini Brewing System
One Cup Coming Right Up
After reading Dusty Overby’s review on the Keurig Brewing System (aka: K-Cups), I was convinced I needed one for my home. The simplicity of the system (read: busy schedule) with an absolute need for space utilization (read: New York apartment) made one of the available options a perfect solution. Forgoing the larger Keurig Platinum Brewing System, I instead procured the single-serve model, the Keurig Gourmet Mini Single-Cup Brewer.
Before you coffee snobs rip into an endorsement of the K-Cups, let me first say that I too am a coffee snob. You should also be warned that once you’ve tried the Green Mountain Fair Trade Golden French Toast, you may completely forget the idea of manual coffee preparation. Sure, a properly pulled Espresso, Cappuccino, or Americano might have few peers, but not all of us have the same leisurely schedule as the café-set.
The Keurig Mini Single-Cup Brewer, steps to the plate of a carnivorous coffee consumer (yours truly), and here’s my take. With video.
As evidenced by the video (above), the Keurig Mini Single-Cup Brewer is a small device, engulfing a 10oz coffee mug in its brewing womb with ease. It will fit on small counter tops (and in offices) easily and is virtually maintenance free. With Keurig, ease of use is paramount, unlike with the authentic Italian espresso maker you purchased last year and only used twice - once when you first opened it and once when you decided you’d never use it again. The Mini is available in red, black (shown), and white to fit your kitchen’s decor. There are probably more K-Cup flavors (PDF list) than you even knew of. Keurig is nice enough to even throw in 10 K-Cup flavors right in the box for you first timers.
The Keurig Mini is about as simple as you can make it: insert K-Cup, pour one coffee mug of water into the reservoir, and hit brew. Less than 180 seconds later you’ve got yourself a piping hot cup of joe. It’s a touch more expensive than your garden variety dripper, but if you’re a guy with a busy schedule then this might be the perfect solution for you.
Don’t take my word for it though, watch the video (or large HD version here) we’ve put together of the Keurig Gourmet Single-Cup Brewer in action. Oh and yes, we realize what time it says on the clock… purely coincidental.

i've been strictly french press for the past few years but between the reviews made by you and dusty, i'm thinkin' about changing my ways! that mini looks to be perfect size!
I'm having a tasty cup of hazelnut as I write this. Perfect, every time.
I covet the Keurig. I'm gonna get a bigger one, though.
I can attest to the quality of the brews of both the tea and the coffee.
I am now a full-blown fiend for the Keurig. The Mini on my desk is my afternoon salvation. http://twitpic.com/51hxj
Amazon is the only place to buy K-Cups. Far better deal than other retailers I've seen. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I have one in my office and its are great because I dont have to worry about the last guy taking all the coffee and having to wait 5-10 mins to make a new batch.
Personally, I like my coffee black with no fancy flavors, but the smells of the Hazelnut coffee this machine brews is amazing.

I've had a Keurig in my kitchen since December. While I sometimes miss the sounds and smells of pot brewing, this little device has really served me well. Would be even better if the sold K-Cups at the grocery stores in Dallas (or anywhere, for that matter).
They sell K-Cups at my local Shaws Grocery store in Boston. We have a Keurig machine at my office and I find all of the flavors to be extremely weak. Beyond that, the fact that each cup of coffee equals a plastic cup in a landfill isn't exactly green thinking.
Thanks for the tip on coffeeicon. I'm looking forward to checking it out. However, by way of clarification, most of Amazon's pricing is between $18 and $23 for 2×24 packs (48 cups).
Several things I've found out about a Keurig:
1) If you like a strong mug (8oz or more) then the regular flavors are weak. I tend to get the extra bold and have found that Timothy's, Caribou, and The Coffee People make some of the best. Strong flavor with nuances. Try Caribou Mahaogany , The Coffee People Cowboy Coffee and WakeUp Call or Timothy's San Lorenzo Dark or Columbia LaVareda.
2) If you are worried about being green, rip the foil off after brewing, throw the coffee in your compost pile and the empty cup in the recycling box. What, no compost pile? Then don't be worrying about how green it is.
3) Amazon's prices are about the same as everywhere. Standard price is about $ 13.50 per 24 cup box. Try coffeeicon.com. they recently had a sale at $9.9 per box. Free shipping when your order is over $70 or so.
Just got a Keurig and I dig it. Only complaint is that sometimes I would like a bigger cup of coffee. I dig the Panerai in the video BTW.
