About: Writing an introduction for one’s self isn’t really an easy task. You try to think about things to say, but everything sounds cocky and conceited. Then I start to think… this is Gear Patrol after all, so how would I review myself?
Well, it’s safe to say I’m a big enthusiast of all things “gear” related. You can expect no shortage of posts covering a large range. It’s safe to say I lean on the sarcastic side and sometimes my humor might be out there, but that’s just what I do. (Ed: sarcastic writers at GP? surely you jest…) Whether it’s playing video games, paintball, working on cars, I like to immerse myself in all types of things. I consider myself a jack of all trade, a master of some and adventurous enough to try most things once.
Career wise I’m a Systems Administrator and served in the Air Force for 8 years - having spent time in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and South Korea.
I am originally from the Republic of Panama where I was born and raised, but spent some time residing in the states as my father was in the military and on the go. I currently live in Fort Walton Beach, which is a laid back spot with white sandy beaches and emerald green water. Don’t be jealous.
What does this mean to you: Plenty of rhetoric describing your soon to be favorite gear. Grab a brew, because I’m sure I’ll be having one, and let the reviews roll…

A couple months back, I was at a local surf shop looking for a new pair of sunglasses when I came across a pair of Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers. Intrigued by their design and mantra, “It’s not a shoe, It’s a sandal,” I tried them on and thought… nice… then I promptly scooped up a pair.
After giving them the initial run-through, I noticed that they were really comfortable but I didn’t really wear them much because it was still kind of winter. As I was prepping for my trip to Panama, I packed the Sanuks along with my rainbows and went on my way.
I’m not really a fan of sandals, something to do with not being comfortable wearing something I can’t haul ass in, I don’t know, but I found myself wearing the Sanuks everywhere and pretty much for the whole trip. They were just that comfortable and went with everything.
Sanuk’s concept of building a shoe upper on top of a sandal was pretty ingenious, and if you’re in the market for some casual kicks for the summer, you owe it to yourself to check them out. Nothing beats good comfort with awesome quality, and Sidewalk Surfers come in many styles to deliver just that.
Cost: $55
I kind of have the same pair but mine are made by Skechers and they are called Beach Mocs. I got them at a skecher outlet for only $35. I love them.. easy to slip on and very comfortable. http://twitpic.com/1wug2
Gentlemen I'm from Santa Barbara CA http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3099/2795078329_65... and i have to say these things are amazing. They are comfortable and edgy at the same time. These "schmandels" (what i call them) are a definite must!!!! WOW This is a first i had these before Gear Patrol pointed hem out . I'm STOKED MAN
i was going to write up a deal about the ones I bought 2 weeks a go but you beat me to it. *same revew but with out the spelling mistakes*
Love them so much I now have 2 pair and getting a 3rd.
i love my sanuks! they are my default "house shoe" as well as general "around town shoe". so comfortable and light! thomas, i can completely relate; something about sandals that you can't "haul ass" in is cause for concern. i like have a little more protection on my foot than just open toes.
mos def
Love my Sanuks, but I must say, the sole wears faster than I expected, for the price. Still, fun to have on my feet.
I just ordered me a pair last night from Amazon, hopefully I ordered the right size! I have been looking for a cool summer shoe to be able to ware without any socks, and this looks to be the one.
These seem similar to TOMS - I love my TOMS!

"schmandels" ha…good one
You should hit up sanuk on twitter. A friend of mine said he did because his kind of wore out and they hooked him up with a new pair.
Thomas!
Thanks for the love! Hopefully you weren't forced to hall ass! How are your Sandals holding up!?

PS. I like the two other brands comments! nice try
How do you clean them. I have a canvas zebra-stripe pair that I was wearing when my dog decided to go awol on the dykes along the Bay of Fundy in NS (muddy and dirty)? I definitely had to haul ass! Can I just throw them in the wash? I'm hoping they're not ruined.
