About: Writing an introduction for one’s self isn’t really an easy task. You try to think about things to say, but everything sounds cocky and conceited. Then I start to think… this is Gear Patrol after all, so how would I review myself?
Well, it’s safe to say I’m a big enthusiast of all things “gear” related. You can expect no shortage of posts covering a large range. It’s safe to say I lean on the sarcastic side and sometimes my humor might be out there, but that’s just what I do. (Ed: sarcastic writers at GP? surely you jest…) Whether it’s playing video games, paintball, working on cars, I like to immerse myself in all types of things. I consider myself a jack of all trade, a master of some and adventurous enough to try most things once.
Career wise I’m a Systems Administrator and served in the Air Force for 8 years - having spent time in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and South Korea.
I am originally from the Republic of Panama where I was born and raised, but spent some time residing in the states as my father was in the military and on the go. I currently live in Fort Walton Beach, which is a laid back spot with white sandy beaches and emerald green water. Don’t be jealous.
What does this mean to you: Plenty of rhetoric describing your soon to be favorite gear. Grab a brew, because I’m sure I’ll be having one, and let the reviews roll…

A couple weeks ago I was out at Panama City Beach enjoying myself in the good weather, partaking in spring break activities, and hanging out with some coeds. Amidst the long nights and chillin’ on the beach, I found time to hit up a surf shop and next thing you know, I’ve got myself a Sector 9 Carbon Trylam T3 longboard.
The Carbon Trylam is constructed with 4 plys of maple, sandwiched between layers of carbon fiber and fiberglass. According to the Sector 9, they’re also “dipped in the sauce of the day.” Perfect, but the fact that it’s constructed with carbon fiber pretty much had me sold.
The board is lightweight and has a great spring to it. Matched with some Gullwing trucks
, 72mm grippy wheels, and Abec 7 bearings
, this rig is perfect for hauling and carving. This, of course, learned while tearing down the strip passing up cars caught in traffic. The TR3 is definitely a head turner, even more so with the skills it’ll have you demonstrating.
Cost: $189 | $187

Mmm, I dig anything with carbon fiber. Thanks, Thomas.
Nice, but I find those Sector 9 boards always a little too 'spenno for my budget. Would you recommend an alternative or are these the real deal?
I was literally in Ron Jon's for like 2 hours riding boards. I kept going back to the sector 9's. I liked the flex and the carbon fiber reinforcement gave me the assurance I wouldn't break it that day at least. Gravity had some nice ones too. It seemed like they were all almost in the same range though. http://www.skatesonhaight.com has some good deals. check'em out.
I'm having trouble deciding between the Sector 9 - 9 Star Longboard, and the Carbon TR3. Where I live is all flat and I don't know which one would be better for me. I want to go as fast and possible on a flat area, and it's just for travel/cruising. As I improve I might think about putting some orangatang wheels on either of the boards which one would be better with orangatang wheels?
