Great article, but it's true that Aeron's are not the only ergonomically designed chairs on the market. Personally, I prefer the Ergohuman or Global multi-tilters -- great chairs that fulfill all the points made above, and both much cheaper, too!

Thanks, Patrick, for the "thought primer" here. Hopefully, we can feature or review some specific chairs. As a guy who spends most of his day in a less than great office chair, I can attest to the downside of going cheap. As you imply, that makes my having good posture while sitting all the more important.

Wow! What a useless article. Everybody knows about aeron chairs. Looks like the manual just typed out. Have at least pictures of some alternatives.

Right - all very very good points..., but you really don't have to spend a thousand bucks to get a good chair. That's the misconception that the Aeron has created. Yes, you will have to shell out more than 100 bucks, but you can get a great chair for around $500 bucks.
The chair should be able to adjust to the user, not visa versa. And remember, 'cause many people don't, sit as far back as possible, dont slouch! Back against the back of the chair, thats what its there for!! (The amount of back pain cause by improper posture is preposterous!)

This is great advice, but office chairs can get expensive in a hurry! There's no question though a comfy ergo chair == increased and sustained productivity.
