Those who know me best sometimes accuse me of engaging in various hobbies purely as an excuse to gear up. Though I hate to admit it, there could be some truth to this claim. Then again, we here at Gear Patrol firmly believe that if you’re going to do something, it’s worth getting properly equipped. That’s how I came to know Manduka.

In the last few months, I’ve begun doing a yoga program once a week as a part of my larger workout routine. This post isn’t purposed to discuss the benefits of yoga as a workout, but let me just say that I’ve been overwhelmingly impressed with the benefits of a challenging routine. Yoga is a beast and will help you become one yourself, but even in its calm and minimalist world, it still pays to be well outfitted.

Manduka’s Black Mat PRO claims to be the world’s finest yoga mat. I’m inclined to agree. Whereas I can’t claim to have tested it directly against every single yoga mat on Earth, I can say that the performance and comfort of the Black Mat PRO is far beyond that of any of the cheaper mats (or worse, going without a mat) that I’ve tried.

It’s denser and thicker than other yoga mats and its slip-resistance is unparalleled. Really, it’s like coating your hands and feet with pine tar, only much cleaner. The Black Mat PRO is offered in a standard 71″ length as well as an optional 85″ model, which I found to be a very welcome upgrade.

Backed by a lifetime guarantee, this Manduka mat certainly isn’t the cheapest option you can find, but you will definitely get what you pay for. If you want to get the most out of your yoga routine, I highly suggest that you check out the Black Mat PRO or one of Manduka’s other excellent offerings. A Manduka mat may not increase your balance, strength, and flexibility without your help, but there’s no better way to unleash your inner warrior 1, 2, or 3.

Cost: $85 (71″) - $99 (85″) | Amazon
