Tails are wagging at the news. This fall, Honda’s dog-centric Element will hit lots with K9-specific accouterments to assist with dog transport that will have Fido cruising in comfort: cargo area cushioned pet bed, walk-up ramp, bone patterned rubber floor mats, 12V DC ventilation fan, spill-proof water bowl, pet restraint systems in second row and cargo areas, and second row seat covers and bed fabric in matching dog-pattern design.

The 2009 Dog-Friendly Element also features new exterior styling details: a new grill and bumpers, retooled front metal fenders (no longer made of that lower-tier feeling composite material), and restyled headlights and taillights. The interior gets new switchgear and instrument panel meter graphics, as well as fresh fabric patterns and dashboard color combinations. The EX model also offers a center console with a removable cooler/storage box. You’ll be able to mate the Element’s 2.4 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine a 5-speed manual, or 5-speed automatic transmission, and Real Time 4WD is also available.

Author’s Note: The Element has long been known as a great dog-hauler, with easily cleanable urethane floors, an expansive, flat cargo area (74.6 cubic feet with rear seats removed), and side cargo doors that open wide – yet, the Dog-Friendly™ package will take it to another level.
