With space for a family of four(+dog) or just a group of friends(+gear), the Marmot Den 4P Tent is an essential for any camping excursion that involves more bodies than just your own. The Den 4P provides 64 square feet of sleeping space and an additional 25 square foot vestibule, when you utilize the fully covered fly (as we’ve shown in our photo above). It’s spacious and loaded to the rip-stop seams with features.

marmot-tent-den-4p-exteriorAfter a hands-on excursion with the Marmot Den 4P it’s been a refreshing surprise to see how much detail Marmot put into this tent. Of course, all this is best discovered in person, while camping, and that’s exactly how we tested the tent. We’re talking about details like a catenary-cut floor, which raises tent seams above the ground, massive D shaped doors including a second door for easy ingress/egress (no stomping on your buddy’s face), a ceiling lantern hook, fully-covered fly with tie-downs & easy-snap fasteners, generous storage pockets, and a design that makes setup easy enough for one person to do in just a few minutes or two people even faster.

Weighing in at scant 10 lbs, the Marmot Den 4P easily packs into its included bag alongside what Marmot calls “DAC” poles. They’re essentially featherweight high-strength collapsible shafts (15% lighter than aluminum) that are much less likely to buckle or bend under abusive storage, or the elements.

Editor’s Note: Having used a number of tents in the past, I can attest that $349 is a not-inconsiderable sum for a tent purchase. Perhaps you’re thinking that tents are more of a disposable affair; one failed setup, one rip, one bent pole, and you might as well 86 it. Tents, like the Mamot Den 4P prove that a tent should be anything but. For enjoying the outdoors properly, this is a worthy investment.

Cost: $349
