As a general rule, the water that comes from the tap might or might not be safe for us. Nice idea but I didn't like the complication of having to pre-filter water before sterilizing it, in order to get any particles or sediment out. Also, I'm not a big fan of relying on batteries in the outdoors especially when it comes to something as vital as drinking water. I'll stick to my old simple First Need pump purifier. The SteriPen might be better suited for urban ventures, where other options and batteries are available. I've tried the SteriPen that a friend brought on a backpacking trip this summer.
