If you’ve been on ESPN.com in the last few months, there’s no doubt you’ve seen the ads for FRS featuring an uber-ripped Lance Armstrong. FRS (Free Radical Scavenger) is being touted as the next best thing in the supplement world. The key ingredient this time, Quercetin, is an antioxidant found in blueberries, apples, and grapes; it works to enhance your body’s energy system to keep you performing longer. The stuff is supposedly so good that Lance decided to become a member of their Board of Directors. It also helps there’s also a bunch of fancy scientific data to help back it up, too.

Hit the jump to get this author’s personal take.

Fortunately for you, this editor is tired of being tired and decided to sacrifice his body for the sake of science Gear Patrol. The energy you get is best described as a clean energy, like driving a Fisker Karma Hybrid and flows from your body like Goku going Super Saiyan. Best of all, and unlike other stimulant-based products, this one doesn’t leave you jittery for hours before you crash. Each can of FRS contains only 48mg of caffeine, equivalent to about half a cup of coffee, and is “used as a metabolic enhancer to help the body absorb the other key ingredients.”

For one particular workout, after only 2.5 hours of sleep in the previous 36 hours, this editor went out for a 5k. While no personal records were broken, just getting through the run was remarkable enough. If you’re looking to add a little spark to your workouts, this maybe the answer for you.

Cost: $20 (Powdered Packets) | $16 (Liquid Concentrates)
