why-we-suck-denis-learyDenis Leary’s first book will make you laugh about as much as it will make you cringe. A few weeks ago, we received an advanced copy of Leary’s new satire that hones in one goal: “to be brutally honest about our fat, ugly, lazy American selves”.

Everything form Leary’s profanity-riddled rant on annoying children, to cats, to the Catholic Church is delivered with characteristic wit and biting tongue. Leary writes, with fervor, about his love of taking on everyone from celebrities to politicians, leaving no stone unturned. That is, except the American working class (and Oprah), a people he unabashedly defends to the teeth; this theme one of his driving factors behind the outstanding show, Rescue Me.

No, “Why We Suck” isn’t a book you’ll want to read to your children at night, but you will undoubtedly find yourself quoting from it. And it will most certainly get you thinking.

Cost: $11
