star-trek-blu-ray-jj-abramsThe unstoppable (and frustrating) J.J. Abram’s take on the Star Trek franchise reboots the much beloved sci-fi franchies to Warp 13, (reference) satisfying even the die-hard trekkies, this writer included. Today’s Blu-Ray release continues the lens-flare laden, action-packed, CGI maelstrom with TrueHD 5.1 sound, and visuals designed to take full advantage of all 1,080 lines on your HDTV.

Brought to life by the producers behind Lost, Star Trek boldy goes into a storyline based around a twist in time and brilliantly cast: Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Eric Bana, and Zachary Quinto as Spock. The three-disc special edition includes a wealth of extras including 15 featurettes, and deleted scenes. Easily one of this year’s best Blu-Ray releases and a steal for $20.

Cost: $20

Feeling especially nerdy? Pick up the Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual while you’re at it.
