An <a href="http:\/\/www.findugg.com\/" target="_blank">Ugg boot</a>is made from the skin of an Australian merino sheep most commonly. The wool part of the skin faces into the inside of the boot and so lies against the leg. This results in a warm soft feel to the boot that is found only from wearing Uggs boots. The <a href="http:\/\/www.findugg.com\/" target="_blank">Ugg</a> is unique in the level of comfort it offers to the wearer, and devotees of <a href="http:\/\/www.findugg.com\/" target="_blank">Uggs</a> will maintain tenaciously that Uggs are the most comfortable boot on planet, unsurpassed by any other form of footwear.

I too am interested in seeing if virgins had anything to do with fashioning this desk. As an AUDI fan I think the Audi RS6 piece should live on. I am serious about the piece featuring desks below $800. I though about mentioning it again since no one has mentioned it in their reply.

Alan,
We are currently attempting to validate the existence of this bevy of virginal steel workers. We'll let you know what our research turns up. I'm pretty sure everyone is pulling for a good outcome there.

can i afford a $140k RS6 (an avant at that... fast wagon goodness!)? no, haha! can i see the value in such a beast? hell yeah! do i appreciate it even though it's not affordable? most definitely!

again, it's not the fixation thing that bothers me. the only thing that bothers me about this article is that i, personally, can not see how this desk can ask such a high price. the details are very limited. if the designer said the steel was crafted by 40 virgins working on it day and night for 2.5 years, then hey, i might finally see the value. maybe an exaggeration, but you see what i mean. and again, to each his own. :)

and i do look forward to the RS6 avant coverage.

Valid comments to everyone, both from the GP side and the readers. Though I have full confidence in our "clientele" (for the record, we prefer: "readers" and "members") to both appreciate the sub Free-$25 category as much as the $100,000+ price echelon).

Disclosure, the next fixation (of mine) was going to be an Audi RS6 Avant - a twin-turbo V10 580 horsepower station wagon. A ~$140,000 notion. Based on some aforementioned conjecture, perhaps it too is "outlandish" and "fun". Oh well, I don't mind pulling editorial rank to get some crazy into the mix. Post/Article hot sauce, if you will... and I like my hot sauce.

Though Patrick doesn't like hot sauce so he may disagree by either throwing a golf club at me or just angrily bark commands during interval training. We'll see...

Serdad,

Thank you for your comment and suggestion on how we can work to make Gear Patrol a more useful resource for you. I can honestly say that we work diligently to feature a variety of products spanning all price levels and purposes, but do apologize if in your opinion that fact has somehow not shown through our work as of late.

However, as our Copy Chief Dusty Overby explained in an earlier response, the 'Fixation' series in particular is a unique segment that is less concerned about discussing products that are affordable, practical, and universally appealing. Instead it is used as a regular outlet through which our editors can discuss their individual passions and styles. Hence the line included in the post-script which states:

"The Fixation is a new series of posts focused on… well, fixations. Unlike our regular posting schedule, yet much like the fixations that have laid victim to many-a-coveting, lusting men, these posts will come without measured planning (though we’ll aim for a weekly basis). There is no true rhyme or reason behind the uncontrollable yearning of a man’s fixation.."

If in this instance you do not personally agree with Eric's taste in desks, I'll be the first to admit that you are not alone, as I myself am puzzled by how such a seemingly simple desk demand such a high price. However, others may hold similar feelings about my affinity for DJ equipment, or a 1959 Les Paul. So who are we to say that only products that appeal to our individualized tastes deserve to be discussed vs those that don't?

To address your comments about the "blog snatching" of the HTPC, all I can say is that our focus as a site is to surface unique products we believe are worth sharing. Under that creed, just because another major media outlet covers something first does not mean it isn't still worth highlighting to our audience. The fact that we give credit to the source which alerted us to the product is our way of acknowledging the hard work of our colleagues online and ironically is something both Gizmodo and Engadget practice themselves on a regular basis. For instance, doing a quick browse of Engadget's homepage, I found these articles which the site all credits to other sources for finding (see bottom left corner of each article".

So while we do strive to add as much unique content as possible to the internet at large, we feel like others that just because we don't have the time to be the first to cover every possible product, that shouldn't prevent us sharing the wealth provided by other tremendous resources online from time to time.

So while we do strive to add as much unique content as possible to the internet at large, we feel like others that just because we don't have the time to be the first to cover every possible product, that shouldn't prevent us sharing the wealth provided by other tremendous resources online from time to time.

As Dusty explained earlier

I am of course in the same boat. On average GP is not tailored to people that have salaries that can afford this type of desk. Eric I think you maybe a little optimistic on the breathe of your GP clientele. I think you may get a little more out of your hard work if you so a piece on affordable desks that aren't made by IKEA and fall below the $800 price tag. I think the people that are actually looking for something in this category may take advantage of your hard work. Just please don't resort to blogsnatching from Gizmodo or Engadget like the slim HTPC a couple of posts after this.

I think it's important for me to note that this is the first 'fixation' piece that i haven't liked. RGM signature series - beautiful, 1959 Les Paul - gorgeous and i can't even play a guitar, the '68 datsun - god, i would love to own that!

You guys are doing killer work and I'm down with the fixation articles, it's just this one particular piece that i simply don't get. But to each his own and if I come up with anything good, I will be sure to share it.

I know what you guys are saying and i totally get the whole fixation thing (mine consist of watches, cameras, i buy a lot of kicks, etc) but i just can't wrap my brain around what part of this desk could justify that price tag. i definitely own and lust after some overpriced items but this one just seems so severely overpriced. i think it would be cool for a few hundred and a $1000 - $2000 price tag might put it into a reasonable 'fixation' class but $6500 for a little steel and leather just seems insane. i would love to hear from the designer about what makes this such a great desk as the website doesn't reveal much more than what you guys have shared here.

Trust me, I'm all about value. I'd argue that value is highly subjective depending on the man and the situation. For example, Ben would have no problem spending a cool grand on a universal remote while I just prefer switching between two. Patrick will spend $4 per golf ball where I spend recycled $1 balls, but both scratch their head at my $3 per sheet stationary and obnoxiously expensive camera gear. At the end of the day the percentage differences are pretty similar.

I have a few personal belongings that I tend not to flinch on when it came to cash outlay: a few key pieces of furniture (reading chair, mattress, desk), clothing (rain coat, watch, but not necessarily shoes), and cameras.

That said, I like the spirited dialogue going on here about value over just knowing what's out there. Oh, and I too know a great metal worker who could fashion me quite the desk as well (and has with a kitchen counter in the past). The Fixation posts are intended for the latter, not necessarily a direct suggestion that you buy but just something we've seen that we like that may not necessarily make sense. Remember though, we've got readers from all walks of life... so some of our more financially sound men may consider this a purchase within their means.

Wow! Overreact much people? Nobody said to buy it. And if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. A lot of people would struggle to afford most of the stuff on here. A lot would think $125 for a sweater is absurd.

Gents,
It seems that you haven't taken the time to absorb the post-script to this and all other articles that fall under the heading of <em>The Fixation</em>. These posts aren't intended as recommendations for purchases; rather, they are designed to highlight interesting and unique items the price tag of which might just put them out of the reach of prudence. I'd say that's about right for this beast.

wow! ultra lame article, guys. i can not, for the life of me [regardless of how i look at it], fathom what part of that desk could possibly be worth $6500 much less what part of it might make it a 'fixation'. if you really want such a simple, generic desk, i have a friend who could fashion one out of steel and leather for substantially less than $6500. probably less than $500. expect a markup if chumps are willing to pay for it but even then it will be 50% less than this excessively overpriced 'designer' desk.

additionally, from a guy who owns a desk without drawers, a desk without drawers simply is not functional. that's a mistake i will never make again.
