The Future of Power Outlets?

Wall outlets are a critical link in the technology chain which haven’t received much attention in a long time. That’s why we felt theTruePower UCS Power Outlet with Built in USB Ports was worth a mention, since it’s a seemingly no brainer change to the age old stand by that should have been integrated years ago.

As the picture shows, along with two standard three prong power outlets, this design includes two USB charge ports, great for powering everyday USB devices like iPhones and iPods. Outside of just being convenient, these additional ports are also specially designed to only draw power when something is physically connected, ensuring that installing them in your own home doesn’t add a vampire-like power drain and consistently increase your electric bill.

As of now, though, they’re still awaiting patent approval, so those eagerly looking to renovate their home outlets immediately will be disappointed. Fastmac, however, is accepting pre-orders, noting that credit cards won’t officially be charged until the product ships. For $10, it seems like a pretty straight forward upgrade in our books, especially considering they are meant to be installed in existing wall outlets, with no additional wiring on the back end. Here’s hoping we all actually get the chance to buy them.
