Sunice Hurricane Jacket
Science Meets Style
If you haven’t noticed, we here at Gear Patrol love the game of golf. In fact, some of us love it so much that doesn’t matter the season or the weather, because if given the opportunity we will play. Unfortunately, golf can be miserable if playing in the rain. That is unless you have the right gear; luckily, we can help in that department.
It’s in that spirit that we’d like to introduce you to Sunice. Since 1976, Sunice has been dedicated to finding the perfect balance between form and function in high-performance ski and golf wear. They provide everything from base layers to outer layers for temperatures down to 40 below.
We were introduced to Sunice through the company’s Hurricane Collection jacket; made from Gore-tex Paclite Shell, it boasts a featherweight, breathable stretch fabric that has a lifetime waterproof guarantee. To make it a true golf jacket, it also has convertible sleeves that can be removed when full arm coverage isn’t desirable.
The jacket also has some features we’ve not seen on other raingear or jackets like laser-cut pockets that will stash your gear in the dry (like an extra glove) without adding any extra bulk. It has an adjustable waist that will slim down the silhouette of the jacket from the back, not from the front – a welcome design touch intended to avoid cramping your swing. One of the best features of the jacket is its rain channel on the sleeve. By manipulating the fabric around the cuff and creating a slightly different shape to the cuff and closure, Sunice has created a way for the water running down the sleeve to actually drain away from the hand, keeping your glove as dry as possible.
Sunice has thought of everything, even down to the smallest of details; they’ve added a microfiber folding towel to the inside of a pocket for the purpose of cleaning your ball on those days your playing lift-and-clean.
All of these features add up to a jacket that provides maximum protection from the rain, while maintaining a very slim fit eschewing all unwanted bulk. Its roster of impressive features combined with the superior quality of Gore-tex means that we feel we’ve found a raingear item that’s truly worthy to protect your game.
Author’s Note: Not only have I played golf in this jacket but I’ve also worn it to a rain-soaked University of Tennessee football game. It literally rained the entire game and afterward I was completely dry and the envy of my waterlogged friends.
