Moon (Blu-ray & DVD)
One of '09's Best Sci-Fi Films That You Might Have Missed
Considering 2009′s surplus of Sci-Fi blockbusters, it’s easy to understand if director Duncan Jones’s debut indie flick Moon passed you by. Released on Blu-ray today, in our opinion it’s in a dead even race with District 9 for best Sci-Fi movie of the year, which was ironically also directed by another first-time director, Neill Blomkamp.
Starring Sam Rockwell, Moon, is an intense psychological thriller built around the premise of how isolation breeds insanity and speculates in many ways on the troubles of life in space first depicted by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apparently, Jones has stated that it’s also the first part of an eventual trilogy. Featuring DTS-HD Master Audio encoding for ear buzzing sound and a more than acceptable 1080p picture transfer, we’d highly recommend giving it a watch.
Editor’s Note: “The Hurt Locker” is also (officially) out today.
Cost: $25
