As with most things we review here at Gear Patrol, first impressions are everything. Luckily, Benchmade’s 14800 TUMULT left a lasting impression of quality and functionality on us right from the start.  The TUMULT is perfect for those who need, with the quick slide of a thumb, an insanely sharp and sturdy blade. Whether you’re seeking a tool that offers one-handed operation to allow a free hand for other tasks or you just want the best blade available, Benchmade has delivered resoundingly on both accounts.

The matte black 60601T aluminum handle is incredibly light (1/3 the weight of carbon steel) and non-reflective for tactical environments.  The business end is crafted from D2 Tool Steel which offers good corrosion resistance and excellent mileage in wear, while the double action out-the-front mechanism translates to a secure, single-handed grip during extension and retraction.  I had the fortune to test this blade while deployed to the Middle East and, time after time, the blade mechanism worked flawlessly despite continuous sandstorms and temperature extremes.  The TUMULT has been battle-tested and proven to be a reliable companion in the direst of situations.
