The Dell Adamo XPS currently holds the record as the world’s thinnest laptop by a landslide. Squeaking in at 9.99mm or (.4 inches thick), design wise this aluminum alloy sheathed computer is simply stunning to behold, and to enhance its allure even opens in a manner James Bond would approve of. Instead of the normal latch mechanisms, this machine has a specialized heat sensor which only releases the latch when it detects the touch of human skin. Once opened, the computer sits at an ergonomic 30 degree angle for typing, utilizing the unique back latch as a quasi kick stand. It’s 13.4 inch widescreen 16:9 HD display is also one of the biggest in its class of thin and light laptops. Outside of these design novelties though, the XPS is relatively light on features compared to competing models, shipping with a 1.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo U9400 process, 128GB SSD drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and integrated graphics. However it does come with two removable batteries good for a combined 4 hours of juice. Big features missing include an optical drive, an integrated cellular modem, a and backlit keyboard. The bottom line is design and form factor are your biggest priority, then the Adamo XPS is hard to match. Performance geeks will be underwhelmed though by this Dell beauty and should consider other options in this buyers guide.
