Nope, it’s not some bizarre dish served on Indiana Jones, but Monkey Shoulder is a foreign drink to us Yank’s, where it’s unavailable for import stateside. Blended from three Speyside single malts (Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininvie), Monkey Shoulder is a triple-malt whisky blend crafted from a modern-day variation of its roots. The name comes from the roots of the traditional malt-making process that once involved malting barley by a wooden shovel. In turn, the arduous, repetitive labor caused a physical ailment amongst its malters known as, you got it, monkey shoulder.

Using no grain whisky, Monkey Shoulder is the first-ever blended triple malt Scotch whisky with a taste that’s tasty and unique: medium and tangy with a hint of honey and orange. The finish can be a bit biting, but that’s easily resolved by, another pour. If you’re up for the challenge, this one’s definitely worth sneaking back stateside.
