Baden Axe Pro Bat

Loggin' in a better average

By Matthew Claudel on 3.9.11

Baseball has been an American standard since… well, since old George W (the original) caused a ruckus in a certain British colony. During the intervening time, baseball equipment hasn’t changed much – leather skinned ball, three bases, sunflower seeds in the dugout – until the Baden Axe Pro Bat ($45). Woodsman, meet baseman. Rather than a simple cylindrical handle, the maple bat has the same oval cross-section and a flared bottom as an axe. Baden’s tool-inspired design has recently been approved by the MLB, and it’s quickly making its way into pro dugouts. Players say that the ergonomic handle allows them to continue batting practice for longer periods of time. There haven’t been any formal tests yet, but it looks like outdoor functionality might be sending more pitches to the outfield in seasons to come.
