Volvo Concept Universe
From Boxy to Foxy

Even though Geely sounds like a name your kid might have chosen for his pet hamster, the Chinese automaker can respectably take the stage with a beautiful new concept car, the Volvo Concept Universe. In the 70′s and 80′s Volvos were relatively reliable European cars but tended to channel large kitchen appliances on the design end of things. Three decades later and under a second new owner, they’re giving us a lipsmacking view of what their next flagship might look like. Clearly designed to compete against Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar, the Concept Universe takes on more of the four-door coupe look christened by the Mercedes-Benz CLS just a few short years ago. Volvo Designer Peter Horbury stretched out the hood of the current S80 and added an eye-catching grille that draws you to the Volvo emblem. The muscular haunches viewed from the rear quarterpanels and the Bugatti Veyron-esque wheels round out this new look for Volvo. Touchscreens and simple but elegant design abound in the interior, which no doubt will cradle you in Swedish/Chinese creature comforts. No info on what might power this flagship if it makes it to production. Let’s just hope the headlights and side mirrors don’t get cut by the bean counters. More images after the jump.
