Articles by Jon Gaffney

I joined Gear Patrol because I love searching for gear in my free time, and I felt the need to pass on my knowledge. As an avid reader of everything online, my bookmark list is about as bloated as George Costanza’s wallet; needless to say, my tastes are eclectic. So, readers, prepare yourselves for variety. That said, I know that you work hard for your disposable income, so if I recommend something you can be sure I’ve done the research to know that it’s worth your while. Outside of the gear, I am a born and bred New Englander who recently completed a 2 year stint below the Mason-Dixon Line, and I’m glad to have the Sox and Pats on local programming again (Please refrain from any TB Rays or NY Giants jokes). I’m also a Social Media dork so feel free to hit me up on Twitter @jongaffney. I graduated not too long ago with a BS in Marketing and, according to my friends, an MS in the History Channel. As a collegiate athlete, my interest and passion for sports and fitness has carried with me. I’m always up for an adrenaline fix whether it’s from the gym, from skydiving, or from an intense game of ultimate. That’s me in a nutshell, and if any one has suggestions, comments, disagreements, or something you think I should review just shoot me an email. Slainte!

Merino Wool Buff

The Buff is about as simple as it gets. It’s just a tube of fabric roughly 18″ long, made to be the Optimus Prime of headgear (Did anyone else just think of Megan Fox?). It …

30 Awesome T-Shirts

T-shirts have always been the cornerstone of a man’s casual wardrobe, partially because of their comfort and partly for the personal statements they allow you to make. Want to support a president, generate some …

Pendleton National Parks Blanket

Here at Gear Patrol, we’re obviously proponents of the “Man Chair.” A few month’s back though, I discovered a glaring weakness with my “Man Chair”… the lack of a respectable blanket. This point hammered home …

Barbour International A7 Jacket

Spring is coming up fast, especially here in East Tennessee. If you’re looking for the right jacket that won’t have you sweating bullets as the temp kicks up a notch, but still offers rain …

Moonshot Wiffle Ball Bat

Wiffle Ball is the best summer sport. Ever. There is nothing like grilling, having a cold beer, and throwing your arm out by trying to strike out your softball playing cousin.  Personally, I always enjoyed …

Sumo Lounge Sultan Sac

Sumo Lounge Sultan Sac

The Sultan Sac from Sumo Lounge is a far cry from that vinyl beanbag you sat on while playing video games growing up. That beast was liable to leave you with a seriously sweaty posterior …

Smathers and Branson: Needlepoint Belt & Key Fob

One of the cooler traditions of preppydom is the handmade needle point belt. Usually made by an over-achieving wife or girlfriend, these belts are often stitched by hand for some lucky male to include numerous …
