An Ice Cream Knife Even Chuck Norris Would Approve
With summer at an end, there’s still time left to enjoy your favorite indulgence, ice cream. And of course, Gear Patrol, we can’t just look at this creamy treat without finding the perfect tool to serve (er, cut) it up.
The Van Vacter Ice Cream Knife (awesome name) features a serrated edge that cuts through rock hard ice cream with ease and puts grooves on your scoops to keep those toppings in place. Your days of bent serving spoons are over. There’s little time left this summer, so enjoy the hot days while they last.
Editor’s Tip: Don’t throw the Van Vacter I.C.K. at people, no matter how much you want Ben & Jerry’s.
Cost: $19 @ Broadway Panhandler

A Fresh Coffee Bean Is A Good Coffee Bean
It’s not a secret that a perfect cup of coffee starts with the fresh beans. Fresh beans + Grinder = Bliss.
The vacuum-sealed, stainless-steel coffee bean keeper from Williams-Sonoma ensures your morning nectar will always be top notch. The cannister minimizes your coffee beans from exposure to oxygen and moisture - essentially, “preserving the delicate oils that give the finished brew its rich flavor and aroma.” Yeah, that. All I care is knowing that the first sip of sweet sweet coffee is solid gold.
Cost: $40 @ Williams-Sonoma

Rule: A Man’s Kitchen Should Be Organized

All food and no storage makes Brian an angry boy…
As much as we’d like to keep everything in our lives nice and neat, it’s not always possible. This is especially true of the kitchen. The rolled up bags of cereal and pasta boxes aren’t going cut it.
The newest addition to my kitchen might be the perfect solution, the new OXO Good Grips Pop Containers. OXO makes a lot of innovative kitchen tools and organization products, this one quickly climbing my list of favorites. All you have to do is pick the right size container for whatever you’re storing, put the lid on, then push down on the button on top of the lid to form an airtight seal. Pop Containers also feature a modular stacking system for easy storage. It’s simple, yet effective, solution to keeping your food fresh and your kitchen organized.
Cost: $7-17 each, $99 (11 piece set) @ OXO

It’s impossible for me to get enough sneakers. Every year I use three out of the four seasons as an excuse to upgrade my alabaster kicks. A bit much, I know.
Enter Original Penguin’s new sneakers, The Jingle. I chose the Midnight/Blue and Highrise/Tango combinations (shown) and dig the modern look with a perfect touch of retro 50’s. My only qualm? They don’t make more color combinations. I’d pick up a bakers dozen if I could.
Editor’s Tip: Pair with a pair of chinos, fitted cargo shorts, or medium wash jeans. Avoid temptation to wear bowling shirts.
Cost: $40-$90 @ Original Penguin
