Another Reason Why We Love HermanMiller

herman-miller-sense-desk.jpgAccording to über design firm HermanMiller, the ethos behind the Sense desk is that you need a desk that makes it easier to mirror the changes you encounter every day in work life. Sounds reasonable.

What I can say is that the Sense is an innovative desk with gorgeous lines I would be comfortable working at both work and home. The myriad of adaptabilities the Sense desk allow you to expand the desk to a massive multi-user workstation or just a simple one-person work surface.

Paperwork Recycled Storage Basket

Paper Basket?

paperwork-recylced-paper-wastebasket.jpgRecycled paper as a storage basket. Clever.

The Paperwork Recycled Storage Basket from Mocha comes with a purposed design: to banish clutter. Not a new concept, I know.

Rather, the unique premise of this storage basket comes from the fact that it’s made from recycled rolls of magazines, something I come into contact far more than the average joe. Nice to see that those recycled glossies are making their way into something useful. It’s also a perfect gift for that friend who needs a little nudge towards recycling.

Letter From The Editor

Vote. For Mankind.

mankind-vote.jpg

GP.EDITORIAL.gifWhether your political pinnings reside with Obama or McCain you should know that tomorrow will be a watershed moment. This year’s election has been such an extraordinary series of unique instances and unprecedented occurences that I think most people have come to take that for granted. Don’t.

Honestly, I can tell you now that I feel both Presidential candidates have our nation’s best interest in mind and heart. How they plan to make that happen is another matter. I may sway one way or another, but I find patriotism and well-understood convictions for one’s country the finest character a man can hold.

The stigmas of calling yourself a Republican or Democrat aren’t seen here in the hallowed halls of GP. We, like all men, have our own political beliefs and they are mighty important. But whether it’s trekking the Continental Divide on horseback with nothing but a knife, enjoying an aged Porterhouse and cigar, arguing the finer points of color palettes and decor, debating the best constructed timepiece, finding the latest deal online, taking 10 minutes to make sure your 5 o’clock shadow is just so, or just fragging-out in Call Of Duty, one thing remains true…

We are men. We suffer and succeed in tandem.

So tomorrow (or now) act accordingly. Take the time for your voice to be heard and stand just a bit taller once you’ve voted. Take a moment to look around, toss partisanship aside, and embrace your fellow man’s well-judged beliefs. Know that mistakes will be made and the journey may be tough. But most of all, know that you may well have made the most important decision in your life.

(rī)1 Whiskey

It’s Pronounced “Rye One”

ri1-whiskey.jpgWell, this is surprising. Normally we expect our brown distilled bevs in a more traditional package, but the makers of Jim Beam have made a whiskey for the urbanites and sophisticates without disenfranchising the traditionalists.

(rī)1 is a modern take on rye whiskey. The 92 proof spirit provides a slightly spicy yet light flavor and when cut with a dash of water gives off a cinnamon nose. I find it to be a nice palate, even at 10am on a Monday morning here in the Gear Patrol office. Who needs coffee?

We just received a bottle and like everything on this site… we go the length to make sure you know what’s good and what’s not. Even if that means drinking and emailing.

Iconoclasts | John Favreau and Tony Hawk

Director of Iron Man Interviews Director of Skateboarding

Hawk_Favreau.jpg
Two men we wouldn’t mind having lunch with.

Here at GP we love a good mashup. Especially when two seemingly opposite ideas come together for something unexpectedly great.

Tonight I’ve got my DVR set to record Iconoclasts on the Sundance Channel. If you don’t know about Iconoclasts, it’s an outstanding show that forgoes the typical interview/interviewee process and pairs two influencers/celebrities/world-changers of seemingly opposite genres and has them interview each other in a casual real-world environment. It’s fascinating.

In it’s forth season and more importantly tonight, Iconoclasts has Jon Favreau, director of the Iron Man movie franchise (but more importantly, creator and actor in Swingers) interviewing Tony Hawk, and vice versa. Other interview pairings include: Wycleaf Jean and Venus Williams, Mike Myers and Deepak Chopra, Quentin Tarantino and Fiona Apple, Cameron Diaz and Cameron Sinclair, Eddie Vedder and Laird Hamilton… and the list goes on.

More than just questions, you’ll see Tony Hawk showing Jon Favreau why he’s scared to do his new jump or what the biggest challenge is between creating a movie like Swingers and Iron Man 2. So watch and learn.

Who knows? Season 10 could feature you.

Editor’s Note: In a Gear Patrol World, our mashup vote goes to resident golf guru Patrick Tuttle talking with Lil Wayne a.k.a Wheezy. Imagine the possibilities.
