Or so the thought must have been with the creation of Ski Dubai, a 242,000 square foot indoor ski/snowboard slope with year round snow. Ski Dubai features 5 runs that fall a total of 196 feet over 1300 feet enclosed in a 30 degree Faranheit environment. Ski Dubai also stakes claim to the world’s first indoor black diamond run. Either way, probably too tame for the skiers and boarders here on Gear Patrol, but hey, you know what they say: “When in Dubai…”

Squeeze in one half sled, one half adrenaline rush and you’ve got yourself way to occupy the last of the winter months. If not, I’m sure the slopes in colder climates will serve just as well for your run on the Mad River Rocket.

The Mad River Rocket began when an architect named David Sellers tried to find a way to slide down the hills of Vermont. What started as two toy toboggan’s sliced in half and pinned together and since then transformed into what you see here - a snow forging rocket.

The hull of the Mad River Rocket is fabricated from thick, virgin polyethylene. Sure-grip, ribbed knee pads are designed for comfort and performance and a quick release belt. There are two holes drilled into the bow for the inevitable walk uphill or trek from the lift.

What this means to you: We’ve had a Mad River Rocket for over a month now. We took it with us on the last couple of ski/board trips and in less than two runs all our cronies were clamoring for a turn at the helm of the Mad River Rocket. The inevitable comparisons to the sled scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation were shared with liberal outbursts of “Clark, the shitter’s full.”

Contrary to popular belief, not all of us here at Gear Patrol are skiers. So this boot is for our men carving powder on their single blade whips. The Salomon F22 Snowboard boot is all about power and precision with no compromise when it comes to comfort. There are soft gel inserts on the shin and ankle areas to form to the shape of your foot eliminating pressure points. Goodbye soreness. The F22 also uses a PU tongue that allows you to customize the F22’s flex: tightening to give you control on the steep slopes or a looser grip for the freestyle park. Salomon’s quick-pull lacing system keeps you in the parking lot less and on the hill more. We like.

What this means to you: Outside of the old world dark brown/barley look, the boot will ride right regardless of the conditions. The Autofit Soft Gel works like a bloody charm and the ability to go from explosive riding to soft and smooth makes this boot gear we’re glad to have.

The Oakley A Frame is a lens designed to keep you moving on the slopes whether you ski or snowboard. It has a three-tiered defense approach with surge ports to control airflow, F-3 Series anti-fog treatment, and dual lens design to reduce fog with a thermal barrier of trapped air.

The lens uses high definition optics with 100% UV filtering, impact protection that meets ANSI Z87.1/ASTM F659 standards, durable yet flexible urethane and triple-layer polar fleece foam with moisture wicking. Frankly, we just like that we could order ours in orange.

What this means to you: We fitted ours with a Jet Black frame, Persimmon lens, Black Argyle/White strap and GEARPATROL.COM etched into the lens. Of course. Ludacris postulated in Roll Out “are you… custom fitted?” We tend to agree.
