At Gear Patrol, when we say we’re all about real reviews by real guys, we mean it. Think of us as an aspiring men’s gear/lifestyle magazine and community powered by the very men who read it.

poweredbymenWhat Gear Patrol does is provide a platform for you to publish what you know. In turn, you’ll help advance your fellow man or, at the least, make him more knowledgeable. Behind the scenes, we provide all the spit & polish to give your work the snap & sizzle you see in glossy magazines. It isn’t perfect, but we think it’s a good model for now. At the end of the day, it’s the well-advised and curated knowledge that brings 71,000 readers (and growing) to the Gear Patrol community.

You might see things on other sites before ours, but we’re not here to talk about the same damn thing everyone else is, or worse… post press releases every day. Just because its “new” doesn’t mean its important. Yes, 94.5% of the time we know about the newest thing, but what you see on our site comes after one of our crew members (and now you) personally tests and endorses a product.

What you see are certified by real men.

Submit An Article - Gain Fame and Maybe Some Gear

Submitting an article is easy with our simple form (below). We’re calling it The Gear Patrol Open Forum. It’s an opportunity for you to be heard.

One of our editors will review your submission, and if it meets our quality standards, we will publish it. Yes, your aspirations of becoming a published writer are one step closer to fruition.

What you have to gain: Well, for one you’ll be published. Also, you’ll gain web notoriety for your work, and if we find you to be one helluva good writer, then maybe we’ll ask you to join the crew. Keep in mind, though, that with membership comes responsibility. If you prove to be a real rockstar and join our team, you might even get to to keep some of that gear. Again, we personally own, review, or purchase everything you read about on Gear Patrol. If we don’t, we disclose it. That’s our editorial policy and we stand by it.

Before your mind wanders into a land that overfloweth with gear, lets discuss the ground rules of Open Forum.

The Rules of Engagement

  • Two articles per day - You may submit no more than two articles per day. We reserve the right to say yay or nay to any submissions.
  • Disclose business relationships - If you have a business relationship with a company named in your article, that relationship must be fully disclosed. We will not publish articles by individuals or firms that are compensated by a company for coverage of that company’s products or services.
  • Talk about what you’d recommend - The Gear Patrol community only endorses things we would feel comfortable recommending to our own friends (read: peer reviews). Product bashing or slandering will not be considered. Though, what’s important to one man might not be to another, and that’s something you must keep in mind. If you have a negative opinion about a product or service that’s already on site, talk about it in the comments.
  • We love images, send them - If your article includes photos, graphics, or a video, please email them as an attachment to submissions @ gearpatrol.com and include the title of your corresponding article in the subject line. Our magicians will take it from there. Do not send us copyrighted material, and make sure you source when necessary. If you simply don’t have anything, send us some links to the product and we can try to help track it down for you.
  • Write, right - Don’t worry, we’ll fix any egregious errors in your submission, but at least do us the favor of employing your spell check. Also, use a single space after each sentence or risk drawing the ire of our copy minions. That’s not a good situation.
  • Send us links, lots of them - Send a link where you can purchase the gear or service. If there are corresponding links or sites about your article, send ‘em. If there’s a site where you got your idea from, send the link. The more information, the better.
  • Tell us about yourself - If you are a new author, please submit a brief bio to be included with your guest author profile, or email it along with your photo, graphic, or even Facebook profile pic. We need a working email to contact you.
  • No paycheck - Gear Patrol contributors, correspondents, and guest writers are not paid. We write because we think of this as a service to mankind. Lofty goals? You betcha. If that doesn’t work for you then you’re more than welcome to keep reading and commenting, but don’t say we didn’t give you a chance if someone posts your brilliant find/idea first.

After submitting the article, please wait to hear back from us. Whether your article is approved or not, we’ll contact you directly about your submission. Just keep this in mind: if you send us garbage, that’s where it’s gonna go.
