A Jacket of All Trades

Tested: Aether Alto Jacket

When we stopped by the Aether office and showroom to take a look at the second version of the Alto ($395) jacket, their crew handed us a sample and sent us on to their on-site testing facility -- an industrial walk-in freezer -- where we got a preview of how it would perform in the wild. Our adventures with the Alto would take us from chilly nights in Los Angeles to face-mashing wind in Detroit to a short stint inside New York’s polar vortex. And Vegas. That set of varying destinations is where the Alto, a true multipurpose jacket, is meant to shine.

That wetsuit ain't for show

Setting Sail: A Journey to the Channel Islands

When I first received the invite for a Wilderness Collective trip I had many reactions, which were, in no particular order: "I haven't camped since I was six" and "I hope the people don't suck" and "it'll be nice to go on a pleasant, Instagram-worthy tour off the coast aboard a yacht in order to roast marshmallows on an island". Our destination would be the Channel Islands archipelago, eight land masses situated over 30 miles seaward from the shores of California's coast. The multi-faceted trip would not, in fact, be about yachts and butler service. I didn't know that yet.

Bioshock Infinite If being scared shitless by splicers wasn’t enough from you, Bioshock’s third installment should do the trick. Shifting from the bottom of the ocean to a floating city in the sky where a perverse American dream has overflowed its bounds, the setting and plotline of Bioshock Infinite might be drastically different than its...

Dispatches and gear reviews from Hawaii's oldest island

Kauai Four-0: 4 Days in Kauai, 4 Gear Essentials

Hawaii has always been one of those places that seems totally wild and far off. Yet, like Lada Gaga, it’s American. So when I was tasked by my better half with finding a summer adventure that didn’t require a subscription to Rosetta Stone and also had a beach, it became abundantly clear that Hawaii was...

Aether Stormy Jacket

Layering is one of the single greatest fashion opportunities found in the cooler seasons, and a great shell should fit as well over a single oxford as it should a sweater, serving its function as protection from the elements. Last year, we first learned of the Aether brand and checked out the Aether Summit Jacket...

Before your mind explodes with the absolute non-possibility of such a thing, allow me to interject. What you would have would be a great looking, highly functional, properly fitted piece of outerwear for hiking, climbing,...
