Chair lifts be damned

Jones Solution Split Board

For a while, snowboarders had a harder time riding some of the biggest mountain lines. Relying on a snowmobile and then an often exhausting boot pack in, it was thought that a skier with a randonee set up was often best suited for off piste adventure. Then Jones Snowboard decided to develop a solution and then aptly called it, well, The Solution ($800). As the brand’s premier backcountry free–riding board The Solution can be worn like alpine touring skis for skinning up a mountain face and then converted back into board form for the heart-pounding descent. The board features a hybrid rocker/camber flex pattern and a blunt nose to help with float in deep pow. To aid with side hill traction on the climb up, it’s further dressed with Magne-Traction, a serrated edge giving your board more contact points on the slope. Constructed with a full wood core, a sintered base to created a better glide and a film topsheet instead of plastic one to reduce weight, you can be confident when shredding mountain spines or charging through couloirs.
