The Fort Knox of coffee

Friis Coffee Vault

We appreciate the chain cup o’ joes that keep us rolling on the road; but at home, we especially attend to the efforts and offerings of the world’s coffee-roasting elite. To make sure those efforts don’t go to pot, keep your morning motivators in the Friis Coffee Vault ($22+).

Like most coffee canisters, the Friis is fashioned from stainless steel and seals your coffee in a cool, dry, dark place, keeping it fresh as a young Will Smith. It departs from the norm, however, in its lid. Roasted coffee beans release carbon dioxide, which is bad for flavor if it can’t escape. The patented Friis Freshness Valve — incorporated into the lid — works like a Gore-Tex doorman for these 12- and 16-ounce containers, keeping an airtight seal while allowing the degenerating gas to escape. The lid also incorporates a handy date wheel, so you can set a reminder for when to pop in a replacement valve, or when to order that next pound of Kopi Luwak.
