Good old Bilbo. In a way, he’s the granddad we all hope to be: pipe-smoking octogenarian, enjoying good food and reminiscing about better times when he ran around with a crazy bunch of dudes who pulled pranks on rubes (trolls) and escaped some tight situations (trolling the Goblin King in the Misty Mountains). Of course, there’s other appeal to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on Blu-ray 3D ($28). Fully invested Tolkien fans will geek out at the extensive use of lore (songs included), those who simply liked the Lord of the Rings trilogy can enjoy an epic origin tale, and aesthetes get to hit the mother lode of incredible visuals. Really, who doesn’t like a good Warg attack? The five-disc set includes 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and UV Digital copies, which is almost as obnoxious a list as Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Thorin Oakenshield, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori and Ori.
