Another automotive kidney punch to us Yanks
Power Wagon Reborn: Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
It feels like just yesterday we were licking our wounds from the painful impact of the Jaguar X-Type Sportwagon (it was actually in 2005). The rebadged Ford Mondeo was a bit of a black eye for the leaping cat brand, and the Sportwagon was the final attempt at boosting sales numbers. It was definitely a case of too little, too late — though the wagon was by far the best version. How times have changed. Jaguar will pull back the veil on their ultimate power wagon, the XFR-S Sportbrake, at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, and it is awesome.
Packed with the same kind of rip-roaring five-door flavor as the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic Wagon and the Audi RS6 Avant, the Sportbrake does up the wicked and track-ready XFR-S sedan with more cargo space and a nice big rear door for all those Home Depot runs. Wait, wait — break out the hankie. It’s one of those beauties that won’t make it to our shores. Yes, bitch and moan with the rest of us, but know this: Americans despise wagons, and it’s clear we’re suffering for it. At least enjoy the breakdown of this new racy wagon. Go ahead, get misty.
