Skylock-Gear-Patrol Skylock Bike lock
Our best bike locks buying guide may need an update soon. Thanks to integrated Bluetooth 4.0, the U-lock features the same proximity and mobile app-based unlocking technology found in newer cars. It’s also got accelerometers that can trigger push notifications when a locked bike is being messed with, and even alert emergency services if you get in an accident. The built-in solar panel supposedly provides a week’s worth of charge to the lock’s battery in just an hour of sunlight, but there’s also a USB plug if your ride spends most of its time in a garage. The catch? It’s another crowd funding scheme dream in search of a paycheck that won’t start shipping until at least 2015. Still, for $160 pre-order price, it’s mighty tempting compared to the rest of the high-end bike lock market. $160 ()
Alton-Bow-Ties-Gear-Patrol Alton Brown x hook+ALBERT Bowties
Our favorite filmmaker-cum-foodie and fellow nerd Alton Brown has long since earned the title of best-dressed chef on the Food Network (sorry, Ina). Now, he’s applying his sartorial eye to a new collection of bowties, made in collaboration with the gents at hook+ALBERT. Details on the collection are slim at the moment, but making space on your tie rack now is still the prudent thing to do.
Adidas-Gear-Patrol Adidas 2014 World Cup Battle Pack Collection
The World Cup has always united and divided the talents of the planet’s best footballers under a different set of banners. Adidas new Battle Pack follows suit, adding a bold black and white pattern (or in Messi’s case, blue and white) across the company’s key cleat designs like the adizeroF50, Predator, Nitrocharge and 11Pro. Every adidas sponsored player, including the Flea himself, Mesut Özil, Dani Alves, Luis Suarez, Oscar, Philipp Lahm, Karim Benzema, Javi Martinez and Jozy Altidore will sport a pair at some point during the 2014. You can’t score like they do (on or off the field), but wearing your own pair to the game might still make you feel like part of the crew. $165+
Gopro-Filter-Gear-Patrol Polar Pro GoPro Hero3+ Venture Lens Filters
GoPro videography is now genre unto itself. Polar Pro’s new Venture Lens Filter kit for the company’s latest Hero3+ includes a polarizer, neutral density and macro lens, providing a new array of creative options for immortalizing your next ballsy endeavor. $49
Sony-RX100-III-Gear-Patrol Sony RX100 III
Sony’s dedicated themselves to the compact camera market by introducing a subtle but significant update to the GP100 award-winning RX100 II. The new RX100 III boasts the same 20.1MP sensor, a faster BIONZ X processor, a wider-aperture lens and a fully rotatable screen for optimal selfie framing. The piece de resistance, though, is the minuscule pop up viewfinder that makes for a much more enjoyable shooting experience. $800
