A Visual Cornucopia of Seasonal Food
Scouring the Farmers Market with Chef Timmy Malloy
Four times a week, the crew at San Francisco’s Local’s Corner goes to the market. They walk the aisles, talk with the farmers, and buy seasonal produce. It’s not a kitschy ploy to seem relevant to millennial diners. It’s not a means of saving costs. It is, in the Bay Area — a place plagued by the acute conscious of Alice Waters and the seasonal, local cuisine craze she and others have inspired — a standard way of life. Chef Timmy Malloy joined us for a Sunday overview of the fruits of the market. It’s shoulder season, with the last spoils of summer scattered amongst the hearty winter crops. All fruit was fair to pick. We bartered, we bought, and we took the bounty of the greatest agricultural state back to the kitchen.
