Tissot times the Tour, a time-telling robot, a new diving chronograph and more.

Contre La Montre

Tissot-Gear-Patrol

Tissot has been named the official timekeeper for the Tour de France professional cycling race. The Swiss brand timed the Grand Tour back in the late ’80s and will once again be timing the elite peloton as they race across the Alps and Pyrenees en route to Paris. Time trial stages are nicknamed “contre la montre” which means “against the watch” in French. This July, that phrase takes on new meaning.

Big Blue

Chris-Ward-Gear-Patrol

Christopher Ward is taking pre-orders for an all-new C60 Trident Chronograph, a watch with 600 meters of water resistance, screw-lock push-pieces and a Swiss mechanical chronograph calibre under the hood. The deep-blue dial can be matched with a rubber strap or worn on a steel bracelet. Available in March, you can reserve one early.

Belgian Racer

Radillon-Gear-Patrol

Belgian brand Raidillon, whose watches take inspiration from Formula 1 motorsports, introduces its new (awkwardly named) 42-C10-158 series chronograph, an avant-garde mechanical chrono with a modern lightly patterned dial, its colors inspired by Belgium’s national flag and the GPS coordinates for the famous corner of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit for which the brand is named. As with all of their timepieces, this one is limited to 55 pieces.

Time Rolls By

MBF-Robot-Gear-Patrol

Mechanical mischief-makers MB&F were at SIHH last week for the first time, and took the opportunity to introduce their latest time-telling robot, Sherman. Built in cooperation with Swiss table clockmaker L’Epée the 15cm-tall robot has working rubber tracks for desktop distraction, articulating arms that can hold stuff, and a clockwork torso with an eight-day power reserve. Logically, the clock’s regulator is in the transparent head, Sherman’s “brain.”
