A Motorcycle (or Two), a Watch and a Knife

Staff Favorites: Matt Neundorf, Contributor

Editor’s Note: It’s pretty clear that we’re passionate about gear. And with this series, we want to share with you our own personal favorite pieces. Over the next few months, we’ll bring you our staff’s 10 personal favorites — goods we personally own and use. The selection will run the gamut, from heirloom pieces to practical gear that can be easily procured. Last but not least, each will share one “holy grail” item that still remains the stuff of dreams, out of reach, but hopefully only temporarily so.

As GP’s resident motorcycle enthusiast, I spend most of my time trying to coerce people into letting me take motorcycles to incredible places. Especially when it starts to snow around where I live in Canada… And then, of course, I spend the rest of my time telling you all about how that went.

Triumph Tiger 800 XCX

I still love my Thruxton, but what it delivers in form, the Tiger 800 XCX delivers in function. This bike can (and will) go everywhere.

Subaru BRZ

Because sometimes I like to shift gears with my right hand instead of my left foot. And because sometimes the answer isn’t “Miata“.

Kershaw Leek w/ Speedsafe

My best friend gave me this knife a few years ago. He also picked me up a personalized deep carry clip for it. It never leaves my side.

Velomacchi Speedway Roll-Top Backpack

There is no better backpack for motorcycle riders on the market today. The harness system keeps weight centred without causing mobility issues under arms or at the shoulder, so I can just ride without worrying about my stuff flopping around.

Blundstone 164 (Crazy Horse Brown)

I’m a bit of a sneakerhead. I own over 100 pairs of shoes and yet, I wear the same pair everyday. These Blundstones meet the requirements of my day gig and never feel like work boots. These boots have developed an awesome patina over time (and from multiple Nikwaxings), and are more comfortable than Red Wings.

Aether Apparel Explorer Sunglasses

A good pair of shades is an absolute must. The Explorers from Aether Apparel are made out of beta-titanium, which might as well be called adamantium, because they’re featherlight and damn near indestructible. Developed with motorcyclists in mind, they fit perfectly under every helmet I own and keep me from tearing up at speed. Plus they look rad, and have incredible lenses, too.

Waterfront Vacation Property

The world would be a happier place if everyone had waterfront property. My wife and I try to escape to ours as often as possible.

Sunspel Long-Staple Cotton Henley T-Shirt (white)

A clean white t-shirt and pair of jeans will never go out of style. Add a twist with this Henley. You won’t regret it.

Omega Speedmaster Professional (Vintage)

The Omega Speedmaster Professional is the perfect timepiece. I will never part with mine.

Sony RX100 III

I picked up this Sony because it would fit in my motorcycle jacket. It’s since been everywhere I’ve been on two wheels, and helped document each destination.

The Grail

Walt Siegl Leggero

In 2006, Ducati created a bike I will forever lust for; the PS1000LE. Its just so damned gorgeous. I’d love to have one of those in the garage but if the sky’s the limit, I’d rather Walt Siegl build me his interpretation. Based on his Leggero Series, my Paul Smart homage would be completely handmade. The “Verde Metallizzato” 4130 chrome moly steel, trellis frame would weigh a mere 15 pounds, and the 90-degree V-twin hung from it would punch a little harder than stock.
