Gear Patrol Magazine: Issue Three

Our winter issue has arrived and three issues in, our bid remains the same: a rich, cinematic magazine chock full of people, product and places. Get yours today.

Aether Crosby Jacket

tig-gear-patrol-aether-body

Aether’s Crosby Jacket is, essentially, a classic herringbone wool overcoat fused with a modern technical shell: its three layers of wool are wind and water resistant, seam sealed and breathable. A cozy-warm PrimaLoft liner can be zipped out on warmer days and zipped back in when it gets chilly; two zippered hand pockets and an inner pocket provide plenty of room for everyday carry. A perfect marriage of modern, urban aesthetic and technical features. High-performance outerwear rarely looks this refined.

LG UltraFine 5K 27-Inch Display

lg-ultrafine-5k-gear-patrol-970

Last week, Apple revealed the new MacBook Pro. While everyone was busy losing their minds over the new Touch Bar feature, this seriously impressive 5K monitor went up quietly on Apple’s website. It boasts an absurd 5120 x 2880 resolution and 27-inch screen, and, given its Thunderbolt 3 cable functionality, it’s built specially for the new MacBook. Available December.

The New Volkswagen Atlas SUV Is VW’s Apology to America

Now that VW has almost covered its multibillion-dollar damages, it’s time to get back to making money.

Must Movie and TV Recommendation App

must-app-gear-patrol-970

Dig around Netflix for an hour, give up, settle on something subpar, and then start again. That’s how it usually goes. Often there’s just nothing good to watch, or there’s simply too much to choose from. Here’s an app that rolls all your must-watch movies and TV shows and trailers into one place — no more tough decisions to be made on movie night.

As one of Markhor’s beautiful footwear offerings, the Lagom represents style, craftsmanship, history and plenty of community.

Under Armour x JBL Heart Rate Monitor Wireless Headphones

under-armour-jbl-gear-patrol-970

Under Armour collaborated with JBL to create two new wireless active-fit headphones. The Sport Wireless Heart Rate monitors your in-ear pulse, can be interacted with by lightly tapping on the right earbud, can be synced with the Under Armour Band and is totally sweatproof. It also works with Under Armour’s new Record app, which tracks and displays detailed workout data like calories burned, steps taken, heart rate and more. The Sport Wireless are essentially the same, but without the heart-rate monitoring feature. Both headphones come with a free 12-month membership to Under Armour’s run-tracking app, Map My Run.

Warby Parker Winter Collection

tig-gear-patrol-warby-parker

Seven all-new, wonderfully handsome men’s frames and colors make up Warby Parker’s latest winter collection. Each frame is imbued with a subtle black and white aesthetic, soft tinting and a slight tweak to a classic lens shape.

Master & Dynamic MW50 Wireless On-Ear Headphones

master-and-dynamicmw50b-gear-patrol-lead-full

We’re big fans of Master & Dynamic — a few GP editors swear by their noise-isolating headphones. Now we’re obsessing over their newest wireless hi-fi headphones, the MW50. They are 30 percent lighter than any other wireless over-ears they’ve produced, boast a 100-foot Bluetooth range (three times the range of most wireless headphones) and last 16 hours on a single charge; other details, like lambskin-coated memory-foam ear pads and 40mm beryllium drivers, will come as no surprise to those who are familiar with the company’s exacting standards of luxury and craftsmanship.

Hubble Contact Lens Subscription

tig-gear-patrol-hubble-02

Contact lenses are a pain in the ass. Particularly inconvenient is their marked-up price, skewed for the benefit of some unseen middleman. Hubble skirts all of that nonsense. Their monthly subscription ships premium contact lenses directly to your door, no middlemen involved — which means the best price possible and the least amount of effort on your part. And it’s only $30 per month.

New Balance Rainier Remastered

tig-gear-patrol-nb-rainer

New Balance has released the Rainier Remastered, a new take on an iconic hiker originally developed in 1982 with the help of legendary climber Lou Whittaker. The first iteration of the boot was used by a team led by Whittaker that made the first American ascent of the North Wall of Mt. Everest in 1984. The Rainier Remastered features a full-grain leather and ballistic nylon upper, Gore-Tex lining and a Vibram outsole. Thanks to the waterproof upgrade, this throwback design is ready for a new generation of mountaineers and hikers. — John Zientek, Style Writer

Skullcandy Barricade Speakers

gear-patrol-skullcandy-speaker-slider-3

Built to withstand most physically taxing adventures, Skullcandy’s Barricade speakers are unimpeded by rain, mud, hard falls or the absence of an electrical outlet. They go with you on all your outdoor adventures, but given their classic aesthetic, they also blend in wonderfully in any indoor setting. The Barricade Mini is the smallest of the three, epitomizing compact, go-anywhere design; the mid-range Barricade hits the sweet spot of portability and performance; the Barricade XL bumps the biggest, loudest sound. Pack the Mini for backcountry campfire tunes, or grab all three for room-filling sound throughout your house.

Western Rise Flannel Shirt

Western Rise’s newfangled flannel shirt boasts stretch, moisture wicking, and reflective details.

Rag & Bone x Vuarnet Collection

tig-gear-patrol-vaurnet

An unlikely yet exciting collaboration between Rag & Bone, a name synonymous with NYC fashion, and Vuarnet, the OG-status French makers of luxury sport eyewear. Four sunglasses — two classics and two all-new styles — are reinterpreted in Rag & Bone’s signature understated colorways. Go with the Glacier glasses for a mountaineer-turned-model look.

LeEco uMax85 85-Inch 4K TV

tig-gear-patrol-leco

LeEco should be on your radar. The up-and-coming electronics company has had pretty good success outside the US, and last year acquired Vizio. Now it’s making its first big push into the US market with a line-up of four TVs, one of which is an awesome 85-inch 4K HDR. The TV features Harmon Kardon speakers, Dolby Digital sound, plus 4GB of RAM and a 64GB solid-state hard drive for storing your apps and videos.

Tom Dixon Slab Desk

tig-gear-patrol-dixon

A great desk does one thing, and does it extremely well: it fosters simplicity, providing a calm space to work with a clear mind. Tom Dixon’s newest desk achieves this and more. Made of solid oak or birch, the desk has only two noticeable surface features; a machined groove and a cable hole. Also available in conference-table size.
