Good morning. Want to help find the next Earth? Now’s your chance: Project Blue, an ambitious mission to send a satellite to inspect Earth-like planets in a nearby galaxy, launched on Kickstarter yesterday. If all goes according to plan, by 2022 a probe will be floating around Alpha Centauri — our nearest neighboring galaxy, and one frequently suspected of harboring habitable planets — snapping photos of anything that looks promising. (Astronomically speaking, anything that’s blue in color is a good sign, hence the project’s name.) Here’s what’s good in gear: a cozy fleece shirt, a classically styled hiking boot and an all-new product from Apple.

And here are some fresh stories to start the day.

Fjallraven Övik Lite Jacket

Fall layering emphasizes style — think scarves, wool-knit sweaters, peacoats and so on. But then the first cold gusts of winter wind come sweeping in, and layering gets serious. For that funky transitionary, not-quite-winter-yet phase, there’s the Övik Lite Jacket. Insulated with 500-fill sustainable goose-feather down and constructed with a durable, waxed polyester/cotton shell, it shields against wind, water and abrasion while keeping you warm and toasty. Its silky, barely there feel is thanks to Fjallraven’s special Pertex Quantum lining. An adjustable hem and collar provide extra protection from the elements and three pockets — two hand, one inner and one chest — safely stash everyday essentials. You’ll wonder how you ever managed to survive the cold without it.

TOPO Designs x Danner Ridge Boot

An exclusive edition of the Danner Light, one of Danner’s lightest hiking boots, given a face-lift courtesy of TOPO Designs. The green nylon side panel and red laces add a unique flair to the otherwise classic boot design, featuring a bank-vault-thick Vibram sole and weather-resistant Horween leather upper.

Apple’s Newest Product Is a Book

Coming November 16, the book captures Apple’s legacy in 450 photos.

The Arrivals Bond II Water-Resistant Leather Bomber

A leather jacket on a rainy day is never a good move. Until now. This new piece from the Arrivals is built with rubberized waterproof lambskin leather (and a removable vest liner) to combat just about anything Mother Nature dumps on you; and the modern silhouette makes this a nice option for those that want a leather jacket that goes against the grain. — Andrew Haynes, Art Director

Travelteq Watch Roll

For watch collectors who are constantly on the go, a watch roll is a must-have. Here’s one made of lavish vegetable-tanned leather and lined with alcantara, a synthetic suede known for its durability and stain resistance. Because you wouldn’t toss a Rolex or an Omega into the bottom of a toothpaste-encrusted dopp kit, would you? …Would you?

Edgevale Limited Edition Sherpa Jacket

Sherpa fleece is one of the warmest, coziest winter fabrics ever — maybe the coziest. Put that in a shirt jacket, that most versatile of winter garments, and you have an unbeatable combination of warmth and everyday function. Not to mention it looks great, too.
