Black AirPods Are Here — But for a Price (and a Long Wait)

February 23, 2017 Tech By

Apple only makes white AirPods. However, you can buy them in black — matte or glossy finish — if you go to trusted aftermarket product painter ColorWare. The company is famed for customizing Apple computers, Beats headphones, and PS4 and Xbox One controllers. Now, they’re getting into AirPods. But it’ll come at a steep price: Apple’s white AirPods cost $159; Black AirPods from ColorWare cost $289; if you want the charging case in black too, that’s an additional $30. That’s $319 total — and the wait to get them is between 10 and 12 weeks.

ColorWare’s custom AirPods come in 57 other colors besides black, and you can mismatch them if you want — make the left pod red, the right pod blue, and the charging case be purple, if you want. All custom pieces come with the choice of matte or glossy finish.
