Today’s Gear

What’s New, Now

New Balance MADE 1978

In 1982, New Balance released the 990, one of their most iconic (and most under-appreciated) shoe designs. Now, the 990 is born again, in a new form. The MADE 1978 employs the same slim shape and Vibram sole used in the original 990; new details like perforated suede, a leather collar and a reflective logo give the shoe a modern look. Available online tomorrow.

Killspencer Leather Floor Pillow

Kinda looks like the Blob, doesn’t it? Only it’s not made for sending summer camp kiddies screaming and rag-dolling through the air and belly-flopping into a lake. It’s made for lounging in opulence like a stoned prince. Available in highly limited quantity.

The Frame Television by Samsung

This spring, Samsung is releasing what might be the most radical consumer television since the first flatscreen. It’s camouflaged as an art frame, displaying over 100 art pieces when not in TV mode. The frame can be swapped out for different colors, and it mounts effortlessly on the wall or on an optional stand. Not much else is known about it, as Samsung is playing its cards close to the chest. Expect more details soon.

Exotic Pencils of Caran d’Ache: Sixth Edition

These are not pencils to be chewed on or lent out. These are four pencils made of rare, exotic woods: western hemlock, white oak, silver teak and white ash. Each pencil is varnished with a fragrance, tinting the air of your workstation with a sweet, earthy smell.

Junghans Releases Two Affordable, Minimalist Watches

German watch brand Junghans debuts two new minimalist watches that are easy on both the eyes and the wallet.

Wrensilva Loft Record Console

Wrensilva’s newest creation is also the company’s smallest record console yet. It’s crafted with North American walnut, pumps 300 watts of power and connects to Sonos speakers over wi-fi. For those without a Sonos system, two accompanying Wrensilva speakers can be purchased for an additional $1,500.
