Current Openings

Editorial Internship

We have several full-time or part-time openings for Editorial Internships to support both our digital and print efforts. The internship places matriculated students or recent grads in an intensive, immersive editorial experience.

The ideal candidate relentlessly pursues excellence. Typos and pixel-level errors must be your enemy. Intelligence, inspiration and irreverence must drive your writing and visual storytelling. Applicants must demonstrate a keen ability for story development, discovery and technical savviness (nerds welcome).

Candidates for the position should be highly organized with excellent communication skills, excel with personal time management, and have a thorough understanding of grammar and writing, as well as tenacious researching skills. Direct experience with digital content management systems and publishing platforms, as well as photography and social media platforms for workplace or professional purposes, is preferred.

This is a full-time or part-time internship that will last a minimum period of 3 months. The internship does not include benefits, but we provide a stipend for housing, commuting and lunches. We also offer and encourage course credit. NYC applicants must be able to commute daily to our Manhattan headquarters.

Responsibilities:
• Support editorial team in executing and facilitating various functions, including:
• Assisting staff writers and editors with research
• Writing assigned stories in a timely and professional manner

Copy Editing Internship

The Copy Editing Intern is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the copy editing and proofreading processes for all editorial and advertorial content published by Gear Patrol across the site, magazine and store.

The ideal candidate has a muscle memory–level familiarity with common sentence structures (and knows what an en dash is). Common grammar errors, freak typos, stray commas and sneaky inconsistencies should be caught with equal ease. Know how to chop down a paragraph-long sentence with a killer SAT word or a well-placed semicolon. Have a keen sense of voice. And be cool with breaking stricter grammar rules where appropriate.

Candidates should be highly organized with excellent communication skills and excel with personal time management. Direct experience with digital content management systems and publishing platforms is preferred, as is comfortability with AP and Chicago style.

This is a full-time or part-time internship that will last a minimum period of 3 months. The internship does not include benefits, but we provide a stipend for housing, commuting and lunches.
