With a New Kickstarter, Casper Is Reconsidering Its One-Size-Fits-All Approach
Building upon its one-size-fits-all ethos, Casper launched an all-season duvet earlier this year. But now, following a $170 million round of funding, the bed-in-a-box pioneer is reconsidering its approach, having taken to Kickstarter to fund a humidity-fighting duvet. Launched earlier this month, the insert is filled with down and a thin layer of a proprietary merino wool blend. “To stabilize humidity and reduce sleep disruptions, we harnessed the moisture regulating power of Merino wool and carefully combined it with the insulating properties of down,” the Kickstarter page reads. “The result: a patent-pending duvet that keeps you consistently warm and cozy, but never clammy.”
The campaign was created by Casper Labs, a division within the company focused exclusively on sleep studies and R&D. According to Quartz, the Kickstarter is more about providing early access and insight into Casper’s product development process than actually reaching its $25,000 goal; the project has already been funded six times over, with more than a month and a half to go. Regardless, early bird savings of 25 percent off the estimated list price put a twin-sized insert at $250, which is on par with Casper’s existing duvet.
The solution-oriented insert is expected to ship before the end of the year.
