Meet the SSD T5
Samsung’s Newest Portable SSD Is Super Fast and Drop-Resistant — and It Starts at $130
Meet the Samsung Portable SSD T5 ($130). Announced today, it’s the successor to Samsung’s Portable SSD T3 ($120 for 250 GB). The two SSDs share a lot in common. They look nearly identical, and at the base level, they’re priced similarly: The SSD T5 starts at $130 for 250 GB, while you can find the 250GB SSD T3 for $120 at Best Buy. Both are also shock-resistant, able to withstand a drop of over six feet.
The big difference is that the the SSD T5 boasts much faster transfer speeds. The new SSD T5 can reach speeds up to 540 MB/s (megabytes per second), a significant upgrade from the 450 MB/s of the SSD T3. The SSD T5 is compatible with both Macs and PCs and boasts a USB 3.1 backwards-compatible interface. It comes with two cables: USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A.
The SSD T5 will be available globally on August 15, starting at $130 for the 250GB model. There will be a total of four models available; a 2TB model and a 1TB model, both in “Deep Black,” and a 500 GB and a 250 GB model in “Alluring Blue.” Each model comes with a three-year warranty.
