Knives to Know About
These High-End Bulgarian Knives Are Now Available in the US
Locales like the United States, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Japan are commonly thought to be the centers of knife making. But like any craft, the forging steel into quality blades actually happens all over the world. Bulgaria is one country with a rich history in the trade, and a relatively young company called Manly is seeking to continue that story.
Founded in 2010, Manly crafts handmade blades that have been steadily gaining in popularity in the European market. Now those knives will be available for the first time in the United States. For this initial launch, Manly is offering four knives. Of note are the Peak, a four-ounce folder with a circular cutout for one-handed opening, and the Patriot, a 4.4-ounce fixed blade with both ironwood and milled G10 fiberglass handle options. Both are forged from solid CPM154 steel and come in at 8.66 inches in overall length. It’s a solid start for the reputation of Bulgarian blades in the USA.
