Goldwin’s Latest Collection Is Sleek, Urban and Ready for the Rain

“What sets a manufacturer apart is giving painstaking detail to what is not readily visible.” This is the mantra set out by Goldwin Founder Tosaku Nishida — a mantra that still inspires the company’s product from its heritage sportswear line to its cutting-edge lifestyle line. What started as a small knit manufacturing company in 1950 has grown to encompass not only one of the top activewear brands out there but a style leader in its own right. With every season, Goldwin leads the pack in terms of design — marrying urban and activewear so well that the high-functionality is almost hidden in plain sight. This latest lifestyle collection is no different. It’s designed to perfection: first and foremost it’s fashion-forward but never missing a beat in the technical details.

Goldwin has not only designed pieces that can transition seamlessly from a daily commute to athletics, they also can seamlessly transition between seasons. Made with Pertex Unlimited 2L fabric, the MA-1 bomber has the look and feel of cotton but with the technical aspects you’d expect from your lightweight shell: it’s fully water resistant including waterproofed zippers on the chest and shoulder pockets. The Hooded Pullover Shirt is not only extra soft and stylish; it’s also ultra-lightweight, provides heat retention and has a four-way stretch. And while warmer weather is on the horizon, the stretch twill on the Tuck Easy Shorts makes them completely versatile so you can hop around the city, hit the tennis court or even go for a swim all without having to change.

While the transition from winter to spring is often welcome, it’s also often met with plenty of rainy days. Goldwin’s Hunting Parka, manufactured in its Toyoma factory, is the anecdote. Built for the outdoors, its Pertex 3-layer laminate — a fabric exclusive to Goldwin — has 20/20k waterproofing and breathability, meaning at the end of the day, it’s technically more breathable than Gore-Tex. But with the oiled finish and sleek structure, it hardly appears like technical-wear to the eye. Pair with the slim Regular Easy Trousers and you’d be suited for the ever-changing conditions of spring: made with a nylon stretch material, they’re water repellent and breathable.
