Today in Gear: Oris’s Burly New GMT Diver, Another Stylish Todd Snyder + New Balance Sneaker and More
We’ve made some new adjustments to Today in Gear, including a new publishing time of 4 p.m. in order to capture all the day’s new stories. Comments or concerns? We’d love to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Continuing its mission to build super-tough, super-reliable time-telling tools, Oris has developed what might be one of the biggest, baddest professional dive watches of all time. The new ProDiver GMT was made with the input of professional divers, and the result is an over-engineered mechanical watch, with a travel complication no less, rated for depths up to 1,000 meters below the ocean surface.
The ProDiver accomplishes this with a massive 49mm case that, thanks to a titanium build, is deceptively lightweight and comfortable to wear. The bezel — made from a mix of rubber and ceramic — features the watchmaker’s patented RSS bezel-lock system that keeps the bezel firmly in place during dives. Similarly, the ProDiver also has an automatic helium escape valve. This burly, over-engineered case protects an Oris-modified version of the SW 220-1 automatic movement. It features a GMT function, thus allowing the ProDiver to function as a reliable travel timepiece rather than just a rugged diver.
