Mühle Glashütte Yacht-Timer Bronze
This Dive Watch Proves Bronze Cases and Blue Dials Belong Together
Mühle-Glashütte might be one of the most underrated watchmakers out there. One of just a handful of brands based in the epicenter of fine German watchmaking, the brand is notable for being the only watchmaking concern in Glashütte to focus primarily on building tool watches, having a rich history of building watches and instruments for maritime professionals and the German Navy. Their timepieces are also some of the more affordable to come from the town, as the movements are based on stock ebauchés that are modified — including bespoke parts and high-end finishing — to satisfy the requirements of the “Made in Glashütte” label.
The brand’s latest timepiece is a testament to that high-end approach to tool-oriented watches. The Yacht-Timer Bronze features a beautifully-finished, 44mm bronze case that pairs nicely with a blue dial and textile strap. Inside ticks away an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW-200-1 but bestowed with a “woodpecker neck” regulator, a new rotor and surface finishing throughout. Yet as handsome as the whole package is, the watch is still rated water-resistant to 300 meters.
The Yacht-Timer, unfortunately, will be sold as a limited edition, with only 500 timepieces being made. When it goes on sale, it’ll retail for $2,950 – not bad for a limited edition watch rocking a solid bronze case.
