A classic dive watch modernized

Zodiac’s Super Sea Wolf 68 Is A Celebration Of Dive Watch Heritage

July 20, 2018 Uncategorized By

Zodiac is a brand with a rich dive watch heritage that is sometimes overlooked by enthusiasts and collectors due to the ubiquity of the Submariner and the Seamaster, but in truth, their Sea Wolf debuted to much fanfare way back in 1953, making it one of the first timepieces purpose-built for the (then) relatively new recreational sport of SCUBA diving.

One such iteration of the Sea Wolf line, the Super Sea Wolf LE, debuted in 1968, and today Zodiac is launching the new 2018 Super Sea Wolf collection in celebration of that model. The new Super Sea Wolf 68 Limited Edition (on sale 7/25) manages to retain the look and feel of the original by incorporating many of its features but updates it with modern technology and design, including a COSC-certified STP 3-13 automatic movement, Velcro strap, rubber “Tropic”-style strap, and a heavy-duty mesh bracelet. As on the original, the user has to push the bezel in before turning it, which is a safety feature for divers. Only 182 pieces have been made, so you’ll have to act fast if you want to pick one of these up.

The collection also includes three new Super Sea Wolf 53 Compression divers and two Super Sea Wolf 53 Skin divers to be released on August 25 and September 25, respectively, all of which recall classic Sea Wolf designs from the brand’s catalog. Brand ambassador Andy Mann, an underwater photographer, commercial film director and conservation cinematographer, has been using the Super Sea Wolf 68 during a four-year conservation project with Oceanic Whitetip sharks, taking the watches to the edges of the Earth and bottom of the ocean.
