If you haven’t tried it, the Nike Training Club (NTC) app is pretty unique among workout apps mainly because of the options it gives you. There are over 180 workouts to choose from, focusing on things like strength or endurance, or you can select a specific muscle group (such as core, arms or legs) to work on. There are workout plans, too, so over the course of several weeks you can try to get lean or build muscle. Or you can follow the same routines as certain Nike athletes, such as Serena Williams, Cristiano Ronaldo or Alex Morgan. Like I said, there’s a lot to choose from. The best part? It’s free.

If you’ve been using the NTC app for some time, you’ll know it wasn’t supported on the Apple Watch, meaning you had to keep going back to your smartphone to check on your progress. It was less than ideal. As of today, that’s changed — the NTC app is now supported by the Apple Watch.

There are a few big advantages to working on the Apple Watch. You’ll be able to start a workout on your phone and then track your activity from your wrist. Since the Apple Watch has a heart rate monitor, you’ll also see how many calories you burn (along with other exercise metrics) to help you to close your Exercise ring. The Apple Watch will send you haptic prompts to guide you throughout the workout; it’ll vibrate to let you know when the next drill is coming up. You’ll also be able to pause/start workouts at any time — or skip drills, if you’re tired — right from your wrist.

The idea here is better integration with the devices you already have. And yes, being on your wrist, it’ll help you focus more on your workout and less on your phone. The NTC app will also now feature, each week, a curated list of workouts that are specifically designed to help you close out your Apple Watch’s Exercise ring. If you only need 15 minutes of activity to complete your daily goal, for example, the app will give you some 15-minute workout suggestions.

All in all, the NTC app just got a helluva lot more convenient for Apple Watch wearers, helping us to focus more on exercising.
