A Lot of Watch for $249

Timex’s Brilliant Dress Watch Gets Automatic Winding

October 1, 2018 Watches By

Timex’s retro, mechanically-powered Marlin has proven to be a huge hit, thanks to its handsome design and low price. I mean, who can argue with a $200, hand-winding dress watch? Timex is doing the natural thing and expanding upon the Marlin’s success with new timepieces, and while we’ve seen this with new dial iterations like the mesh-strapped version and the Todd Snyder-designed “Blackout,” the Marlin is now getting a bigger redesign and an automatic movement.

The new watch now comes in at 40mm, so while it’s considerably larger than the hand-winding Marlin’s 34mm case, it’s still a solid mid-range size. The watch also does away with the Arabic numerals in favor of simpler hour indices, while adding a date complication into the mix. At 13mm tall, the automatic rotor adds some thickness to the Marlin, though much of that height is also due to the retro-style domed crystal. According to A Blog to Watch, the actual movement inside is a Miyota caliber 8215.

The watch is available in three different colorways, including three steel references (with black, silver and maroon dials) and a gold-plated case with a black dial. All four cost $249 and are available right now from Timex’s website.
